What to Pack for Youth Camp: The Ultimate Checklist for a Week of Fun

Camp week is right around the corner, and the countdown has officially begun! If you're a parent or youth camper wondering what to pack, you're in the right place. Whether it’s your first time or you're a seasoned camper, it always helps to have a packing checklist to make sure nothing important gets left behind.

Here’s what you’ll want to bring to make the most of your time at Somerset Beach Campground!

Camp Essentials

Let’s start with the basics. These items should go at the top of your packing list:

  • Bible & Journal – Morning devotions and chapel sessions are a core part of camp life.
  • Refillable Water Bottle – Staying hydrated is a must during warm summer days.
  • Flashlight or Headlamp – Essential for late-night walks to the bathhouse or outdoor games after dark.
  • Sunscreen & Bug Spray – Protect your skin from sunburns and pesky mosquitoes.
  • Personal Toiletries – Toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, deodorant, etc.
  • Towels & Washcloths – Bring at least two towels: one for showering, one for swimming.

Clothing Checklist

Pack for warm days, cool evenings, and lots of activity:

  • T-shirts & Shorts – Bring enough for each day, plus a couple extras.
  • Sweatshirt or Light Jacket – Evenings can get chilly!
  • Swimsuit – One-piece or modest tankinis are recommended.
  • Pajamas – Comfy sleepwear for cabin rest and bunk chats.
  • Sneakers/Tennis Shoes – You’ll be doing a lot of walking and running.
  • Water Shoes or Sandals – Great for lake time and shower trips.
  • Rain Jacket or Poncho – Just in case we get a summer shower!

Optional but Helpful

These items aren't required but can make your week more comfortable and fun:

  • Hat & Sunglasses – For extra sun protection.
  • Laundry Bag – Keeps dirty clothes separate and helps with unpacking later.
  • Camera (non-phone) – To capture memories without screen time.
  • Book or Card Game – Great for downtime in the cabin.
  • Theme Night Outfits – If your camp session includes dress-up nights, pack accordingly!

What Not to Bring

To keep camp safe and distraction-free, leave these at home:

  • Electronics (phones, tablets, gaming devices)
  • Expensive jewelry or irreplaceable items
  • Food/snacks (we’ve got plenty of meals and snacks covered!)
  • Weapons, fireworks, or anything unsafe or inappropriate for camp

Pack with Purpose

The goal of youth camp is to unplug from distractions and plug into God, friendship, and fun. The things you pack should support that mission—so aim for simplicity, comfort, and readiness for adventure.

Got questions about what’s allowed or what to expect? Feel free to reach out or check your camper welcome packet for session-specific details.

Now grab that duffel bag, pack up, and get ready for a week to remember!
