Never a Dull Moment

One of the most frequent questions we get asked as a staff during this time of year is, “Are things starting to wind down?”

We can’t help but smile when we’re asked, because though our busiest time of year is the summer, things never really wind down around here.  Lodges are full most weekends and our food service staff is feeding guests regularly throughout the fall, winter and spring.

This past weekend, we had more than 40 volunteers working at our wood cutter’s work weekend, 75 teens from a youth group at a retreat in the lodges, 15 youth from a different group retreating in our cabins and many families and individuals staying in our camping areas.  Take a look at just a few of the pictures from the weekend here.  See some of Chuck Smith’s pictures of the woodcutter’s work crew here.

Today, we’re feeding more than 80 people at an event in the Field House and on Thursday a group of women will arrive for a weekend of scrapbooking in the lodges and enjoying meals prepared by our staff.

Take a look at our calendar to see if there are any activities in which you’d like to participate.  Or maybe you’re interested in scheduling a retreat of your own.

There’s never a dull moment at SBC!

New for summer 2011 . . . a zip line!

Our new zip line is in the process of being installed, thanks to the efforts of Eagle Scout Tobin Tarantowski!

The launch platform is located on the hill above the archery range and the dual lines will end in the area of the tennis and basketball courts.  it will be approximately 800 feet long!

We’re excited about this new addition to SBC, but still need help raising the funds needed.  If you’d like to contribute, click here.

Autumn Adventure at SBC

If you’ve been to SBC before, you know that there’s quite a bit to do.  Not only do we have the usual activities available to all of our guests, there are many things that you can schedule in advance for your family or group to do.

Did you know that we offer adventure education?
School groups and youth groups have taken advantage of the group building program provided by our staff at SBC.  Our low ropes course and ground initiatives give groups the chance to learn lessons of trust and communication while building confidence in group members.  Learn more . . .

Have you ever been on one of our hayrides?
SBC hayrides never disappoint!  If you’ve ever been on an SBC hayride, you’ll know that I’m not exaggerating!  This is one of our most popular fall activities for kids and adults.  Hayrides always end with a bonfire.  Learn more . . .

Do you know anyone who enjoys a good game of paintball?
Paintball has become a popular sport, and SBC’s paintball course has become a favorite amount Southern Michigan enthusiasts.  We have a large playing area on a peninsula reserved exclusively for Paintball Games. The area has been designed to make each game fun & challenging. Learn more . . .

Fall Retreats

Fall is coming, which means the SBC fall retreats aren’t too far away!  We have retreats for people of all ages and we hope you’ll take advantage of one.

Our Sportsman’s Weekend is a weekend of Christian fellowship, pre-hunting season tune-ups and good ol’ fall fun!  We make every effort to provide you with an outstanding recreational program!  We believe that if you enjoy the outdoors and hunting or fishing, then you will love this weekend.

The Family Fall Festival has become a new tradition for so many families across Michigan!  Cool evenings around a campfire, a hayride and hot dog roast, and our Family Fun Fair on Saturday are all things that give families a chance to get a short weekend away before winter hits.

At SBC, we know that senior citizens are in the prime of their lives, so a few years ago we started our Prime Time Retreat!  Activities include crafts, fishing, rifle range practice, prayer, Bible studies, sing-a-longs and more!
